Backflow Testing

The current state plumbing code requires a backflow preventer on all underground sprinkler systems. The backflow preventer is a device that prevents impurities or contaminants from being drawn into the drinking water system. Many sprinkling systems already have the proper backflow preventer installed and only need to be tested annually. Others may not meet state and local regulations and may need to be replaced with the proper backflow preventer.

The regulations also require a state-certified backflow technician to test the backflow preventer annually. This list has information on all the certified backflow testers in Cache Valley (as of October 2025). The state website also has a list of all testers in Utah. After the test has been completed, please submit the results to the City so that we can update our records.

Water Quality Reports

Questions on the water quality reports can be addressed to Public Works Director Rob Stapley.

NOTE: The following information will be helpful in understanding the 2013 report:

  1. SELENIUM (Inorganic Contaminants) units were measured in Parts Per Trillion (PPT) not Parts Per Billion (PPB)
  2. MCLG and MCL were both 50,000 not 50.
