Master Plan 2000


The primary goal of the Master Plan for Providence City is to guide future development and growth of the City while maintaining its central characteristic as a livable community.

We must visualize Providence as we would like it to be twenty-five years from now, realizing that the Master Plan is a document valid for five to ten years growth. The plan is intended to be updated every five years by the Planning Commission to meet the changing needs of the City.

The Master Plan emphasizes the major components of the City"s future: Transportation Corridors, Water System, Storm Water, Sewer System, Zoning, Design Review, Open Space Planning, Urban Trails, Parks and Recreation, Wildlife

Each of these is briefly discussed in relation to background, governing principles, present conditions, and the resolution thereof. The plans and graphics accompanying the narrative demonstrate specific features to direct compliance with the principles of the Master Plan.

Building Division

The Building Division is responsible for guiding owners and contractors through the process of obtaining a building permit and ensuring safe structures through regular inspections.

Building Division Staff:

Providence City contracts with outside agencies for plan review and inspections.
Prior to building or remodeling any structure in Providence City, please submit a zoning clearance application, zoning checklist, and the construction policy form to the Providence City Office Specialist for Zoning Compliance. If your structure involves connecting to the City's culinary water system please include a water system connection form in your application packet. If your structure involves connecting to the City's sanitary sewer system, please include a sewer system connection form in your application.

Land Use / Planning Division

The Planning Division is responsible for guiding developers and land owners through the process of development within Providence City, particularly the subdivision of land. It also oversees the use of land in various zones to promote orderly development. The Planning Division is instrumental in interpreting the zoning code, applying zoning codes, and providing zoning information.

To apply for annexation, code amendment, concept plan, conditional use, final plat, general plan amendment, preliminary plat, rezone, right of way vacation, sign, or site plan, or for any other questions or concerns, call 752-9441 or come in to the Providence City Office at 164 North Gateway Drive, Providence. Before applications are sent to the Planning Commission, they are reviewed by City executive staffExecutive Staff meets each Tuesday (as needed). Applications and answers to review comments must be received, at the City Office, by Thursday at 4:00 p.m. for review on the following Tuesday.
